Greene County seniors Abe Yoder (132) and Jordan Challen (138) won their opening matches Thursday and will wrestle again Friday at the 2A state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Yoder, who is 40-5 on the season, won an 11-8 decision over junior Tyson Manzer (34-12) of Roland-Story. On Friday Yoder will face senior Bradley Irwin (48-7) of Centerville.
Challen, 37-5, improved his record to 38-5 with an 8-1 decision over sophomore Trae Pecinovsky (37-11) of Crestwood. He will wrestle senior Trevor Harsh of ADM on Friday. Harsh’s record is 38-3.
Ram sophomore Hunter Ruth (21-16) lost in the opening round in a 6-5 decision to junior Andrew Hill of Carlisle. Hill is 21-12 on the season. In the consolation bracket, Ruth lost by fall in 2:58 to senior Darin Greenfield of Sheldon-Sibley-Ocheyeden. Ruth was the underdog in that match, as Greenfield has a 44-1 record.
